Tim responds that maybe he should think it over and Binky closes with "Yes. everybody should think it over -- and remember that education is more than putting learning into your head. it makes a better person of you -- a more useful citizen, able to cope with the problems in life you'll be faced with!"
- The Mystery Rope: (Batman) In Wayne Manor Bruce is working with what he calls Fiber V, a new synthetic textile he is testing for possible use as one of their "Traveling Cordes" when Dick sees the Bat-signal. In his office, Gordon tells them he called for 2 reasons. First, a superstitious Jewel thief named Jinx Boley has escaped from prison. Jinx considers 7 or anything that adds up to 7 his lucky number. he escaped at 7 pm on the 7th day of the 7th month. for the second reason, he takes them to the Gotham Historical Society, which is requesting Batman lend them one of his famous traveling cords to be featured in a display. they have blown up pictures of their daily use silken cords, an elastic cord, white cords to go with their winter suits, and Batman's super thin emergency cord. Batman agrees, saying he needs to think about which cord to lend them. Back in Gordon's office, Batman leaves Robin to review the files on Boley while he calls on a few bullet-proof vest manufacturers because Boley always wore a steel vest. before Batman leaves Gordon reminds him about the police athletic group party on the 25th. Gordon and Robin then speculate about which cord Batman will pick. Gordon recalls a story about a disintegrating cord while Robin recalls a story about a hollow cord they used to breathe through while hiding underwater. meanwhile, one Of Jinx's men tells him Batman has been talking to bullet-proof vest manufacturers but he laughs because he makes his own vests. the next morning Alfred speculates which cord will be lent, recalling a story about a golden cord. a few days later everyone is eager to see what Batman will bring and disappointed when he turns up with the kind of wire used by lighting companies but he insists the way he will rig it will be good. as predicted people are disappointed, even upset about his choice but he holds firm until the police athletics party. after the party, he and Robin head directly to the historical society. there they find Jinx, who had broken in to steal a jewel display. Batman electrified the wire when the exhibit closed that night, turning the wire into an electromagnet to trap Jinx and his steel vest. Batman figured Jinx would rob the exhibit that night because it was the 25th (2 and 5 adding up to 7) and he knew Batman and Robin would be occupied at the party.
