- Swamp Thing: The famed debut of Swamp Thing. Alex Olsen and Damien Ridge had been best friends, however, they both competed for the affection of a woman named Linda. Linda eventually married Alex and Damien had to endure seeing them together. Soon out of his lust for Linda, Damien conspired to eliminate Alex. He sabotaged the equipment in Alex's lab causing an explosion that killed him. Keeping the knowledge hidden from Linda, Damien buried Alex's body in the swamp. Alex came back to life, but returned as "…a muck-encrusted mockery of a man." Damien eventually married the widowed Linda and they lived together in an old plantation house. Linda had never recovered from Alex's death and as the months passed, Damien began to suspect that Linda might soon learn the truth, so he prepared to kill her. The reincarnate Alex would walk around the house but this night was different. Damien, poised with a hypodermic needle ready to inject Linda, is attacked by the Swamp Thing. He breaks into the house and crushes Damien's throat. Linda flees from the creature in horror, never realizing that the monster who saved her was her beloved Alex.
