Bone

The series centers around the Bone Family, white, bald cartoon caricatures with big noses. In the opening pages the three Bone cousins—avaricious Phoncible P. "Phoney" Bone, goofy cigar-smoking Smiley Bone, and everyman character Fone Bone—are run out of their hometown of Boneville after Phoney decides to run for mayor and built a balloon [thought to be an evil god later in the story] on top the head of a statue of Boneville's founder. The balloon broke the head off of the statue and all the towns people ran Phoncible, Smiley, and Fone out of town. After crossing a desert and ending up in the mysterious Valley, the cousins are separated by a sea of locusts, and must individually make their way across the fantasy landscape pursued by rat creatures. They joyously reunite at a local village called Barrelhaven, where they are taken in by a mysterious girl named Thorn and her even more enigmatic grandmother. Fone Bone instantly develops a crush on Thorn when he meets her, and repeatedly attempts to prove his love through poetry. As they stay longer in the valley, they encounter humans and other creatures who are threatened by a decrepit dark lord, the Lord of the Locusts. The Bones are quickly drawn into the events around them, compelling them on a hero's journey to help save the world.Although Boneville is never actually shown in the story, it is implied as technologically contemporary: Fone refers to its extensive downtown, Phoney carries dollar bills, and Smiley refers to the presence of nuclear reactors and a CornDogHut. In contrast, the Valley is depicted as somewhat medieval, judging by its lifestyle, use of a bartering system, weapons and modes of transportation, and Phoney persistently refers to the valley people as " yokels."Although essentially a high fantasy, Bone also displays slapstick humor, particularly in The Great Cow Race (issue #10) and Phoney Bone's ongoing efforts to become rich off the credulous valley residents. As the series progresses to graver issues and a more serious level, its characteristic use of broad humor lessens but continues to recur.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward and Al Elric are introduced in their plight to find the Philosopher's Stone. It all started when Ed and Alphonse were children and attempted to bring back their dead mother with Alchemy, the practice of transmuting matter. To transmute a human is considered the biggest of all sins in their world. The results of this were catastrophic for them and their friends and family. Their father, a secretive alchemist named Hohenheim, had already left years before. After they attempted bringing Trisha Elric, their mother, back to life, Ed was taken to the "Truth", an immortal being with god- like powers, which decided that as compensation for such a sin, that he would take Ed's leg. Alphonse, however, was not so lucky. Truth took his whole body and placed somewhere else within the Gate, a void like world where Truth resides. Ed saw that his brother, his only remaining Family member, was gone, and that he had also gained information about Alchemy no one would ever think about. He drew transmutation circles all over his body, one on his heart, on on his head, and one on his arm, telling himself that he would willingly lose these body parts if it meant that Al could get brought back to life. Luckily, Ed only lost his right arm, and was able to transmute his brothers soul, something else though unthinkable, into a nearby suit of armor, thus saving his life and soul, if only temporarily. Now, the Elric brothers must take on the near- immortal Homunculi, or face an impending apocalypse where all humans die. Assisted by the Amestrian army, as well as a few renegade Homunculi, the alchemists must finish what they started.English translation of the Japanese manga Fullmetal Alchemist.Collected EditionsFullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 1 (vol. 1-3)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 2 (vol. 4-6)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 3 (vol. 7-9)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 4 (vol. 10-12)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 5 (vol. 13-15)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 6 (vol. 16-18)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 7 (vol. 19-21)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 8 (vol. 22-24)Fullmetal Alchemist 3-in-1 vol. 9 (vol. 25-27)
